What are class filters and how do they work?

Class filters allow you to pay individual instructors different rates or incentives for different classes they teach. They tell our software how to differentiate, for example, a bootcamp class from a barre class so we can calculate compensation appropriately. Every account needs at least one class filter.

Suppose you have two instructors: Alex and Morgan.

  • If Alex makes $30/class for bootcamp and $50/class for barre, you will need at least two class filters to distinguish between bootcamp and barre classes, regardless of Morgan’s compensation structure.

  • If Morgan makes $35/class for bootcamp and $35/class for barre, but receives an incentive of $1 per person for barre classes, you will need at least two class filters to distinguish between bootcamp and barre classes, regardless of Alex’s compensation structure.

  • If Alex makes $30/class for any class they teach, and Morgan makes $40/class for any class they teach, you will likely only need one class filter, as actual compensation amounts are assigned within our software on an instructor-by-instructor basis. In this case, the class filter might be something as simple as “all classes”.

When first setting up our software, you will have the option of choosing filters based on class tags or class session types, along with locations if applicable. We recommend using class tags if possible for simplicity. However, filters based on class session types will always provide more flexibility, with the caveat that they may need to be updated more often as new class session types are created within Mariana Tek.

Advanced class filters can be setup to include time of day, day of week, class name and more. Class filters can be amended or changed at any time.

Once a payrate is setup for an instructor using a specific class filter, that payrate’s class filter can not be changed to another. Instead, the payrate must be deleted and re-created with a different class filter.
